So I was busy setting up some crons today and was struggling, after further investigation I realised that my VPS’s server time was set to a different timezone. Here is a quick tutorial on how to change the time to your current timezone.

Let’s first determine what the current time is of the server using the date command.

Next step is to list all the timezones on your server.

Now we know what the available timezones on the server is, we know that the current timezone is incorrect seeing as I’m located in Johannesburg, so next we will change the default timezone.

I’m going to take the Africa / Johannesburg time zone and copy / set it as my local time.

And that’s it. I have now successfully changed the default server time of my VPS to Africa / Johanesburg time.
